About The Chairs
How big is the chair? What are the dimensions?
The chair is about 4 feet in diameter and 2.5 feet in height. The reason we say "about 4 feet" is because the amount of filling you choose to put in your chair will affect it's dimensions. If you fill it right up to the top it will be slightly less wide and a bit taller. Think of what happens to a flattened beach ball as it is filled with air. The chair is extra large and specifically designed to comfortably fit adults. You would have to be exceptionally tall (over 7 feet) to find the chair too small.
What quality of leather is used in the chair?
The chairs are made with full grain Brazilian leather. This is a very soft and durable leather that is used in the creation of high end luxury products. The bottom of the chair is a soft suede to keep the chair from marking up the floor.
What colours are the chairs available in?
There are 4 colour options to choose from. Deep brown is our most popular colour. We also offer it in a natural rawhide, an off white colour called ivory, and black. Photos can be found on the orderform.
If you are purchasing multiple chairs from us they will always match perfectly. However, if you purchase multiple chairs at different times of year they will have a slightly different colouring. In the tanning process of the leather, especially for the natural rawhide chair, sometimes the leather comes out slightly darker or lighter. If you are planning on purchasing 2 or more chairs it is advised that you purchase them at the same time. That way they can be picked from the same batch of inventory and be constructed from the same batch of leather.
Are the beanbag chairs really hand made?
Yes, the chairs are hand made in Brazil by a family that has been working with leather for generations. We import a new batch of beanbag chairs from Brazil to Canada about once every two months.
Is it appropriate for a child?
From a comfort perspective, most definitely. Children can cuddle up in the chair just like anyone else. Two words of caution though:
(i) We have been in business for over 10 years. In that time we've only ever had one single customer contact us to tell us about a seam blowing out on the chair. It occurred when their children were jumping off the top of the stairs and using the chair as a landing mat. The chairs are tremendously durable and well built, but not indestructible. Let the children know it is a chair for sitting and not for launching off the roof of the house into.
(ii) Secondly and more importantly, beanbag chairs are not actually filled with beans. They are filled with chipped Styrofoam. These tiny chips of Styrofoam are a light and fantastically comfortable filling material. They are also a serious choking hazard for small children. There is a suede security flap on the bottom of the chair that is designed to make sure the chair cannot ever open accidentally. Once closed, it is difficult to open. However, if a determined toddler or young child were to get it open and breath in the Styrofoam chips or climb inside the chair it could be a serious choking hazard. If you have young children you must always supervise them when around the chair.
Are there different models or sizes?
All the chairs have the same design and dimensions. Each chair is hand made and constructed following the same pattern.
Purchase and Ordering
How can I purchase a chair?
You can call us, or purchase through our online store.
What type of warranty does the chair come with?
Each chair is hand made and individually inspected by the artisan that creates them. The chairs are double stitched and very durable. It is a high end product and defects in workmanship are extremely rare.
Hektic Media LTD dba Beanbag Chairs.ca warrants to you, the original retail purchaser, for a period of one year from the date of purchase, for the beanbag chair to be free from defects in materials and workmanship. Leather is a natural product, and, as such, each hide will reflect its own individuality. Some variations of shade and tone are to be expected as are the nicks, scratches, and wrinkles that only occur in genuine leather. Such characteristics are in no way to be considered a defect.
In the unlikely event that a defect in workmanship is experienced within one year from the original date of purchase we will provide a return authorization number. The damaged beanbag chair must be shipped back to us without the filling material inside. Upon receiving the chair and verifying the defect, a new replacement chair will be provided and shipped at no additional cost to the purchaser. Filling material will not be shipped with the replacement chair. Defects in workmanship include holes or significant cracks in the leather, or a seam failure that causes the filling material to escape. If the chair is in any way damaged as a result of abuse such as children playing or jumping on the chair and blowing out a seam, or if the chair shows signs of unreasonable wear and tear the warranty is null and void.
As a testament to the quality and care that goes into the construction of each chair it is worth noting that since our original launch in July 2003 we have had less than 5 beanbag chairs returned to us.

Where can I find extra filling for my chair?
Good question. All bean bag chairs are filled with chipped styrofoam. Some manufacturers of styrofoam filling for bean bag chairs claim that their filling compresses less than other types of filling. While this may or may not be true, even if styrofoam didn't compress at all, every time someone sits on a chair they will slowly squish out a little bit of the air that gets trapped between each chip of styrofoam. In other words, even if styrofoam didn't eventually compress (and it does), the chair would still flatten down over time as you sit on the chair.
Our chairs are a very high end chair, meant to far, far outlast the lifetime of the filling used inside it. For that reason you will want to keep your chair topped up and just like new. The typical customer will want to top off the chair about once per year. If you use it to watch T.V every single night, you might want to top it up after 6 months. It really depends on how much you use it.
The technical term for the filling is called either "reground polystyrene" or "virgin bead polystyrene". Either filling is suitable. The difference between reground and virgin bead is that virgin bead are perfectly round little pellets, and regrind is randomly sized little chips. Virgin bead allows you to move around in the chair more easily. Regrind allows you to pound out a shape and have the chair hold the shape better. Both are comfortable and will make a fine filling.
Finding it is usually quite easy. One of the most convenient places for most people in an urban area is their local WalMart store. WalMart sells children's beanbag chairs in some of their stores. All of the stores that sell the children's beanbags will carry the filling. It takes 4 bags of the WalMart filling to fill one of our chairs. It's important to note that not all the WalMart's carry the filling, only the stores that sell the little childrens beanbags will carry the filling. It will cost about $75 to fill the chair this way.
Stepping away from a large retailer, a very cost effective way is to get the filling from a manufacturer of styrofoam products. If you are able to do this the cost of the filling can be extremely affordable (since it's a byproduct of manufacturing something else). It can be found at companies that manufacture styrofoam products, or places that provide packing peanuts for businesses. You can also find it at fabric stores, craft stores, etc. If you go this route you can likely acquire enough to fill an entire chair for about $30.
